Raising an Abu Dhabi school's inspection rating with ADEK
A private school set out to improve its inspection rating. We worked to turn the inspection framework from a file assembled before the visit into daily classroom practice — and the rating rose.

The challenge
The school did not lack effort — it lacked timing. The inspection framework was read weeks before the visit, turning it into a scramble to assemble evidence for practices that had not been running consistently through the year. That kind of result exposes itself in the classroom: an inspector does not only read the file, they sit in the lesson.
What we did
- Translating inspection criteria into specific classroom behaviours observable within a single lesson, rather than leaving them as general statements in a manual.
- Building an evidence system that accumulates week by week from daily work, so nothing is assembled before the visit.
- Developing middle leadership — heads of department — in lesson observation and feedback, since they are the ones who carry improvement once the project ends.
- Internal review rounds using the same framework, with candid reports that surface the gap before the official report does.
- An improvement plan with a short priority list, because a school chasing every criterion at once improves none of them.
What remained
What mattered most after the engagement was not the grade but that the school no longer needed us to repeat it. Once lesson observation and feedback become habits among heads of department, the rating becomes a by-product of what happens every week rather than a project restarted each year.
