The challenge
What most often fails an entity at audit is not missing procedures but having two systems: one written for the auditor, and a different way of actually working. An auditor exposes the gap within hours, because they do not only read the manual — they ask the employee. Entities that simply prepare for the audit pass once, then stumble at the surveillance audit a year later.
What we did
- An honest gap analysis up front that measures reality against the standard's clauses, not against what ought to be.
- Building a management system that describes how the work is actually done and then improves it, rather than importing a ready-made system that lives in a folder.
- Qualifying internal auditors from the entity's own staff — they are who keeps the certificate after the consultant leaves.
- A full internal audit and a genuine management review before the certification body arrives, closing non-conformities at their root rather than their symptoms.
- Accompanying the entity through the stage 1 and stage 2 audits, handling auditor findings on the spot.
What remained
The figure we take pride in is not the number of certificates but that the entities we prepared clear their surveillance audits in later years without coming back for another round of preparation. A certificate that needs a consultant every year is not a system — it is an annual event.
